I agree with the guy at the end of the article. He makes a very good point about giving the scarlet letter or in this case the orange hat for people to wear in public so we all know who they are all the time. How far is too far? Would you support this legislation? Would you be more likely to trust an online dating site that did background checks?

The British Office of Fair Trading is warning people of possible scams in the online dating arena. The best tip and one that seems like common sense is to never send anyone funds or bank information of any type. If someone can’t afford to come and meet you without financial assistance from you then as Nancy Reagan used to say: “Just Say No.â€

The best line from the story was in comparing these types of sites to CarFax, the site for finding out about the history of a car before you purchase it.

The idea of using other sites than online dating sites, such as ClassMates.com to find that special someone. In this case someone you may have known or been attracted to in high school. An old friend becomes new again.
This has some truly funny recounts of experiences with online dating. While this person has given it up as it is not for him, he does think that it can be good for some people.
So, just who pays for a quasi-date?
Miss Manners on who should pay for that first meeting beverage. She says that going back and forth in a relationship is the right way to go. So you would have to go past a first meeting to find out if this would be the case with the person you have met. I figure the person who initiated the request to meet should pay. Is technology replacing humanity?
This is an interesting question. In some ways we maybe are. Like the listening to an iPod or something instead of interacting with the people around you or talking on a Cell phone instead of with people around you. On the other hand, something like online dating is meant to help facilitate a face to face meeting. A way to find other people that have similar interests or are compatible in some way.

I mentioned this last week also but it is worth mentioning again as you can get a $10 Starbucks gift card when you sign up with Yahoo! Personals through February 19th. Read the guide. Meet some people. Buy some coffee.
A look at online dating versus a blind date. To me they seem very similar. Except supposedly the person putting the two of you together knows something about both of you.
